The mission of Windsong Equitherapy is to provide high-quality equine assisted activities to individuals of all ages with varying abilities in a safe and supportive environment. We provide mounted therapeutic horseback riding to children, teens, and adults with a variety of physical, emotional, cognitive and developmental challenges.
We help our riders identify perceived limitations and empower them to reach their full potential.
Equitherapy is an umbrella term for a broad range of equine-assisted activities for people who have physical, emotional, cognitive, and social difficulties. Equitherapy can include interacting with horses on the ground as well as therapeutic horseback riding activities.

Therapeutic riding has benefitted children, teens, and adults diagnosed with a wide range of physical, emotional, cognitive or developmental challenges.
Participants work on following multi-step instructions, understanding cause and effect relationships, effective task sequencing, and assessing and reducing risk. Directing a horse through specialized sequencing tasks helps support executive function and planning, attention and focus, cognitive processing, and working memory development for participants in therapeutic riding.
Increased flexibility, muscle strength and balance
Increased cognition, motor coordination, work readiness, self-esteem
Decreased dissociative symptoms, depression and negative affect

Equine Therapy at Windsong Equitherapy has helped fill the void of taking a risk and pushing myself to a new level. The therapy riding has not only improved by balance and strengthen my core, it has also helped me build my confidence. MS give you so many different barriers and takes away so many different things that getting this sense of confidence is just a great feeling.
Bob Terwilliger, Rider
Therapeutic riding makes me feel confident because a lot of people say, "You can't do this" or "You can't do that". But now I can say that I can do something most people can't do.
Sarah Schilmoller, Rider
She climbed on that horse the first day and the from beginning of the first ride to the end we could see improvement. It not only helped her physically but mentally, the changes were remarkable.
Heidi Doane, Parent
We come back to Windsong year after year because the growth we've seen in Erin is significant. But more than the improvement in her muscle strength, balance and communication, Windsong has helped her build her self-esteem and confidence so she can live as independently as she can!
